What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a fine surgical technique that removes fat deposits from your body. A small incision is made on your skin to break apart the fat tissues, which then are removed by suction technique via a small tube.
Our centre provides ultrasound assisted liposuction, a specific liposuction technique which involves the use of ultrasound energy that works only on the fat tissue. Fat deposits under the skin can be quickly reduced and removed compared to the traditional method, where the larger blood vessels and fibrous tissues are left intact for a rapid post-operative recovery.

Why liposuction?

It is not uncommon to find stubborn packets of fat on your tummy, around your arms and thighs, even if you follow a healthy diet and a regular exercise programme. Liposuction is a one-off, minimally invasive method to precisely target and solve the problem. The fat retrieved can be used to enhance the contour of other body parts such as face and breasts.

Is liposuction suitable for me?

We first need to understand your health conditions and expectations in the private consultation session to give precise advices. Liposuction guarantees a noticeable result but it may not be the perfect treatment for everyone. Patients will also be counselled on the result expectations during the recovery process.

Which body areas can be treated with liposuction?

We can treat your abdomen, sides, breasts, hips, thighs, arms and buttocks.

Can the fat cells extracted be injected to other body parts?

It depends on the amount of fat tissue extracted. In suitable cases, fat deposits retrieved can be used for breast augmentation and facial feature enhancement.

What is mini tummy tuck?

Childbirth, significant weight fluctuations and the general ageing process can cause skin flaps and leave excessive fat tissues on the lower stomach. Skin loses its elasticity and becomes saggy after prolonged distension. Mini tummy tuck helps to remove excess loose skin and fat tissues below the umbilicus, repair lower abdominal fascia and muscle layers to tighten and smoothen the tummy shape. It improves the body figure, resolves mid-line bulging and prevents formation of hernia in the future.

why mini tummy tuck?

Mini tummy tuck is an effective treatment with short recovery period. If you have a previous cesarean section scar, it can be reused in the operation. Suitable patients can be discharged on the same day.

What are the differences between mini tummy tuck and liposuction?

Liposuction removes excess fat tissues while leaving the skin intact, but it does not aim to repair fascia and muscle layers. A pressure garment will be applied to minimise the sagging of the skin after the liposuction procedure. However, the resultant skin condition cannot be compared to that after a mini tummy tuck procedure.

What are the differences between mini tummy tuck and abdominoplasty?

Mini-tummy tuck only addresses lower abdominal area. It is more suitable for patients with excess fat tissues and skin flap below the umbilicus.

Do I need to stay in the hospital overnight?

It depends on your conditions. For minimally invasive procedure, pain is usually well tolerated and the recovery is rapid. In this case, same-day discharge is possible.

Is the result immediateLY VISIBLE?

The slimming effect is immediately noticeable. However, it takes time for the inflammatory swelling to resolve. The final result will be visible around 6 months after the operation.

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty is an all-in-one procedure that deals with loose skin flap and excess fat deposits on the belly, and areas around the waist and hips. It also helps to correct loosened fascia and misplaced rectus abdominis muscle, and create a slim waist line and flat tummy. Ideal for patients who wish to have obvious results over the whole trunk area. The scar, which extends towards the pelvic bones, will be longer compared to other types of body contouring procedures.

Why abdominoplasty?

To achieve a sustainable dream body shape, tailored removal of skin flaps and repair of muscle and fascia are as crucial as the removal of excess fat tissues. A combination of those, abdominoplasty is an ideal way to achieve a well-proportioned body shape that meets your needs.

DOES THE PROCEDURE HURT?

Patients may feel discomfort after the operation especially when transferring in and out of the bed during the first two weeks of recovery. With tailored pain medication protocols, the reactions are usually under well control. Most patients can gradually tail off the medications in 2-3 weeks, and return to normal mobility and exercise in 4-6 weeks.

Will there be a long scar?

Due to the degree of skin laxity, the scar is usually long which extends from either side of the pelvis to the opposite side. The scar needs to be lengthened to prevent the protrusion of excess skin at either end of the scar. But rest assured, in most cases, the scar fades over time.

Will my doctor give me a ‘fake’ umbilicus?

The umbilicus normally is a fixed landmark. During traditional abdominoplasty, the umbilicus is detached from the abdominal wall, the skin over the abdomen is then tightened. The excess is trimmed off and a new opening is made for the umbilicus. Therefore, there will be a rim of scar tissue surrounding the umbilicus, but it will fade over time and will not affect the overall appearance of the abdomen.

Can I choose not to do liposuction at the same time?

Liposuction is highly recommended to help achieve your ideal body shape along with the abdominoplasty procedure. The shape of the tummy will not be able to show and the abdomen skin will be unable to travel without liposuction.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Abdominoplasty is a tailor-made procedure by your doctor which will take between 4-8 hours depending on the complexity of your case. A longer duration does not directly translate into an increased operative risk. Your doctor will explain in the pre-operative session for your comfort and understanding.
